Physiotherapy

Bowen Island Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a science-based profession which takes a holistic approach to health and well-being.

Philosophy

Our bodies are amazing teachers. In our fast paced world, we often fail to take the time to listen to the warning signals given by our bodies to “slow down,” to “take care” or “to pay attention,” resulting in a physical imbalance that may lead to an acute injury or chronic illness.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to predict the risk of falling, or prevent a rotator cuff tear or slow down the progression of arthritis of the knee? Certainly accidents occur, but with the development of a few basic skills in body awareness, strength, flexibility and balance you can avoid serious injury or prevent it completely.

My role as a physiotherapist is to facilitate the learning process. When the body has been disturbed by injury or illness, body awareness is often compromised. I strive to educate, engage and empower you in learning not only how the body moves but also how it feels to move in more efficient and pain-free ways.

I have a strong background in evidence-based orthopedic practice. Using keen listening and detective skills, I endeavor to assist you in resolving/managing your pain, preventing further injuries, and maintaining physical independence.

About Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy involves assessing, diagnosing, planning, and implementing rehabilitative programs that improve or restore mobility; reducing pain; and treating and preventing problems associated with injuries, diseases and other impairments.

Physiotherapy modalities include prescriptive exercises, manual therapy, use of mechanical devices, education, application of heat/cold/ultrasound/electrical stimulation, and use of assistive devices.

You may benefit from physiotherapy at any time in your life. Whether you have an acute injury or are managing a long-term medical condition, physiotherapy can provide support and guidance throughout the healing process. Physiotherapy is a useful adjunct to preparing for events such as sports competition, childbirth or surgery. Physiotherapy can also offer a wide variety of strategies for preventing injury or functional decline.

The goals of physiotherapy are to facilitate recovery and prevent injury, enabling people to remain active and independent in their daily lives for as long as possible.
